This is a mashup project that I made in recognition of the 24th anniversary release of Nas' Illmatic. I thought it would be interesting to take Nas' vocals from several tracks off Illmatic and put them over instrumentals of Jay-Z's The Blueprint.

The reason why I chose Jay-Z's The Blueprint is due to a few reasons. Not only do these two legends have a long history together; as they were once engaged in a bitter rivalry, but also because Jay-Z's music has influenced mashup history and culture significantly. Danger Mouse's "The Grey Album" - a mashup project of Jay-Z's "The Black Album" and The Beatles' "The White Album" was critically acclaimed, but also sparked an intense debate about copyright laws and creative expression that even invoked responses from Paul McCartney and Jay-Z. In addition to The Grey Album, the collaborative EP "Collision Course" by Jay-Z & Linkin Park was a commercial success, and its standout track "Numb/Encore" still gets airplay on the radio today.

I hope you enjoy this EP. It's my first "release", but I have been DJing and making music for the past several years. Unfortunately the acapellas and instrumentals that I used for this project were not of a desirable quality, but I did my best to make it sound okay despite that.
